Notes from a Traveller Mar08: Porto's transport is now integrated and uses something called "Andante" which is a contactless card that you touch onto the readers on platforms or in buses/trams. If you have a daily ticket you have to contact it at the start of EVERY journey and ticket checks are common! These cards are rechargeable in the ticket machines and cost an initial €0.50 plus the ticket price and are valid on the metro, buses, trams, local CP trains and the funicular. There's also a tourist Andante ticket; the Andante tour is available in 1-day (24 hours from first use, €5) or 3-day (72-hours from first use, €11) from the info booth in arrivals (although not on Sunday mornings as we found out...!) or offices such as the one at Trindade station but not from the machines for some reason! The cards aren't rechargeable although there's no initial cost for them. The Andante tour is valid in all zones of the Porto area which includes the airport making them pretty good value.
