Airport Overview: One large, modern terminal on one level, divided into arrival and departure sides.
Driving directions: The airport can be reached from Highway 102 leading north from Halifax.
Note: Traffic in Halifax on weekdays between 1630 and 1800 can be awful, with bottlenecks on both bridges. On my visit in September 2007, it took me 90 mins to get to the airport, leaving downtown at 1645.

The Cloud Nine Shuttle: | Runs from Yarmouth to Halifax city and airport. Timings: They try to pick you up at your door in or near Yarmouth by 0800, or if this is not possible, you are asked to meet the shuttle at MacDonald's for an 0800 departure. Mariner Shuttle: | The Mariner Shuttle runs via Annapolis Valley to Digby County, which includes Digby, Weymouth and the villages that make up the Acadian municipality. Scenic tours also available. Timings: Shuttles leaves for the Halifax area between 0830 and 0930, leaving Halifax airport between 1230 and 1330. Reservations highly recommended. Indoor Parking: | In the Parkade next to the terminal. Cost: $18 daily maximum & $90 weekly max. |
Outdoor Parking: | Limited outdoor parking near the terminal (2 minute walk). Cost: $15 daily maximum & $75 weekly max. |
Remote Parking: | Park N Fly offers remote car parking with free shuttle transfers to the terminal (2-3 mins drive). On arrival back at the airport, use the free phone next to the Ground Transportation desk to call a shuttle. Cost: $12 per day & $60 weekly max. |
Notes from a traveller February 2010: | Warning: you may be towed without warning if you leave your car unattended on the "Arrivals" road, even if just going inside the airport to pick up a passenger. The signs are misleading and there are no 'Tow Away Zone' signs posted there at all. People should not park on that road anywhere, if they are not going to be in their car at all times. (They need to park in the Parkade). |
Airport Hotels: The Quality Inn Halifax Airport, (902) 873 3000 or use the courtesy phone in arrivals, is 1 km/3 mins from the airport. The Hilton Garden Inn Halifax Airport, (902) 873 1400 or use the courtesy phone in arrivals, is 3-5 mins drive from the airport. Both will send a free shuttle on request. A new Holiday Inn Express was built a year or 2 ago. It is across the parking lot from the Hilton Garden Inn, and uses the same free shuttle as the Hilton Garden Inn.
Baggage Storage: Available on the basement level, accessed by an elevator in the middle of the terminal. Cost: Small items $1.50 per day/$5 per week. Medium items $2.50 per day/$7 per week. Large items $4 per day/$9 per week. Coats & Boots $1 per day/$5 per week.
Notes: ATMs/Cash machines are available throughout the terminal, but at busy times they do run out of money (as on my visit!). Bureau de Change/Currency Exchange is now in the centre of the terminal on the check-in level, across from the food court. It is called TravelEx.

Sydney (YQY):
Location: 9 km/6 Miles ENE of Sydney.
By Taxi: To downtown Sydney ~$20, or $12 for a shared taxi. Briand’s Taxi Ltd, Tel (902) 564 6161.
By Bus: No buses serve the terminal, but about once an hour, buses pass along the main road, 1.5 km/1 Mile from the airport, on the run from Sydney to Glace Bay.
