Location: On the eastern side of the Big Island of Hawaii, 5 km/3 Miles E of the Center of Hilo.
Airport Overview: A main terminal where all the airlines operate from, and a much smaller Commuter Terminal. To get to the Commuter Terminal exit the main terminal and turn right. It is a 5 minute walk. This terminal is mainly for sightseeing helicopter tours (but note that some operators such as Paradise Helicopters operate from the main terminal). Companies using the Commuter Terminal are Pacific Wings, Volcano Helicopters, Safari Helicopters & Mokulele Airlines. All others operate from the main terminal. There are 2 different bag claims at the airport, at opposite ends.
By Taxi: To Hilo Town or the cruise ship port $11-14/10 mins, to the Volcano ~$62. Kilauea Taxi (808) 652 7247. B&M Taxi 640 4461, Helen's Taxi 895 4400 & Wiki Wiki Taxi 896 1234. Taxi Meter Rates: $3 for the first ⅛ Mile, $0.30 for each extra ⅛ Mile or minute waiting. $1 for each large case. $3 for surfboards.
By Bus & Shuttle Van: There are no bus or shuttle services to downtown Hilo, but the following hotels provide shuttles for guests: Arnott's Lodge Budget Hotel (808) 969 7097 & Hawaii Naniloa Hotel (808) 969 1175 runs 0800-1200 & 1600-2000.

Car Parking: Main Terminal: Right across the road from the terminal. 30 mins free, 1 hour $1, each extra hour $1, daily max $7. Lost ticket $7. Commuter Terminal: Right outside the terminal. $0.50 per 30 mins, daily max $7. Lost ticket $7. Pay in advance in cash at the meter.
Note: ATM/Cash machine towards the center of the terminal. There is a $2 charge for luggage trolleys/carts. $0.25 is refunded on return.

Kona Intl at Keahole, Big Island (KOA):
Location: 13 km/8 Miles NNW of Kailua-Kona on the W coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.

Airport Overview: 2 terminals close together (in fact almost inseparable), and and separate International Arrivals buillding a short distance to the North. This Intl Arrivals building is very basiuc and has no facilities. Domestic arrivals are at the south end. There is technically a Terminal 3, called the Air Tours Terminal, further to the south.

By Bus: Twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, a bus runs south from the airport to Kailua-Kona & Ocean View. Route: Airport - Kailua-Kona (Costco, K Mart, Macy's, Walmart) - Keauhou Shopping center - Captain Cook (Manago Hotel) - Kealia Fujihara store) - Ocean View (Post Office). Timings: Buses leave the airport on Tue and Saturday at 1500. Buses leave Ocean View at 0700. Transfer Times: To Kailua-Kona ~20 mins, Captain Cook 65 mins & Ocean View 2 hrs 15.

Car rental desks are across the road from the terminal, but cars are a short distance away and reached by courtesy shuttle buses. When cruise ships are in port at Kailua-Kona, each rental car company runs shuttles at regular intervals for passengers to get to the airport to rent cars. |
